IDC warns of spiralling Windows XP support costs
Microsoft have commissioned a report called, Mitigating Risk:Why Sticking with Windows XP is a Bad Idea. The conclusions are that everyone is better off upgrading to a more recent version of Windows – but then Microsoft would prefer we are all on the latest version!
There is no doubt that Windows 7 is the best version of Windows to date- it’s more stable, and has a better security model which makes it harder (although not impossible) for viruses to get in. However, Windows 7 works better on newer PCs – so it’s often better to replace a slow Windows XP machine with a new Windows 7 machine, rather than installing Windows 7 on older hardware.
